The Outskirts of Eden
CNN: Friday, March 21, 2003 0924 GMT Washington, DC
"U.S. military planners are devising strategies in case the Iraqi military causes the Tigris River to flood, the Pentagon said Friday...The Pentagon said Iraq used flooding to deter Iranian advances during the Iran-Iraq War..."
CNN: Tuesday, March 25, 2003 0447 GMT
"The Euphrates battle may be biggest so far, as U.S. forces killed between 150 to 200 Iraqis Tuesday in a massive battle -- possibly the biggest firefight of the war so far -- in the Euphrates Valley east of Najaf..."

Genesis, Chapter Two:
"And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east...
....A river flows out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four branches.
....The name of the third river is Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates."

Naked, without shame,
A garden built for two.
Bringing life to names,
Is all they had to do.
But that tree looked so enticing.
One ate, one stood, right beside.
As they both finished that fruit off,
The garden of innocence died.

And on the outskirts of Eden, the dogs of war
rage.
And we don't know where it's leading,
'cause no one lives in Eden these days.

And ever since that time,
We've wandered through these lands,
Verses, without rhyme,
Answers just out-of-hand.
Will we trust in the small voice,
That becons garden-like peace?
Or trust in the quest for security,
Hidden fears always release?

And on the outskirts of Eden, the dogs of war
rage.
And we don't know where it's leading,
'cause no one lives in Eden these days.

Now I've got one question for You.
And I know You will make what You'll make.
But, why, in that first "perfect" garden,
Did You put a talking snake?

And on the outskirts of Eden, the dogs of war
rage.
And we don't know where it's leading,
'cause no one lives in Eden these days.

Abel & Cain don't wear fig leaves.
These days, those won't do.
They hide inside heavy armor, and
Contamination suits.
But what if the quest for the garden,
Begins where the garden once stood?
What if we dropped all offenses,
Banished old hatreds for good?

But in these outskirts of Eden, the dogs of war
rage.
And we don't know where it's leading,
cause no one lives in Eden these days.
